Can I use ANY type of TENS machine for my labour?

Labour TENS Obstetric TENS pain relief TENS TENS machine

Can I use ANY type of TENS machine for my labour?

The simple answer is NO. Not all TENS machines are created equal! Why do you need a TENS machine specifically designed for labour? 1. An Obstetric or Labour TENS has two settings. One setting will be at a lower level of intensity for when you're resting between contractions, and the other setting will be at a much higher intensity for when you are experiencing a contraction. The BOOST button on the side allows you to quickly move from one setting to the other. 2. With a Labour TENS you should receive 4 electrodes for application on your back. Other TENS...

Hear Lauren’s experience using TENS

Congratulations to Lauren and her beautiful family. We're so grateful and blessed to be able to help our mums through one of life's most miraculous (and unpredictable) experiences xxx Read Lauren’s review of her experience hiring a TENS   “Just wanted to provide some positive feedback. This was the best $70 I have spent in my life. I had a very painful first birth so got the TENS machine almost as a back up for my second. How I remained drug-free during labour...and it didn't hurt that much!

Like many mums-to-be, Jess was anxious about her upcoming labour. Here she shares the tools and techniques she used to keep her calm and drug-free during the birth of her baby girl... When I confirmed I was pregnant one of the first questions I googled was how much is labour going to hurt? I knew it was a bad idea, but I did it anyway. Happy & Healthy ... Julia's birth story

When we welcomed our baby girl, Matilda, to the world we found the TENS machine we hired from NatalCare Naturally incredibly helpful during our labour. We were induced using the Misoprostol method. I took my first dose of Misoprostol around midday and started feeling tightenings around 10.30pm that evening.  By around 3.30am in themorning the tightenings were too painful for me to sleep through. At around 6am I asked my partner to help me put on the TENS machine and started using it on the lowest setting. I found the sensation of the TENS machine provided a soothing distraction during...

How TENS works using Low-Intensity & High-Intensity settings

How TENS works using Low-Intensity & High-Intensity settings

Low-Intensity TENS & the Gate Control Theory When using TENS at a low-intensity level, it is working through the Gate Control Theory. The Gate Control Theory suggests that there’s only a certain amount of stimuli that can get through to the brain. In other words, there is a ‘gate’ that only lets so much sensory information through. So, with TENS, you’re ‘flooding the brain’ with this sensory buzzing feeling so that the brain can’t really perceive the sensation from labour contractions as much. High-Intensity TENS & the Diffuse Noxious Inhibitory Control Theory When using your TENS on the high-intensity setting...
